Virginia Street, in Goldsboro. Registration will begin at 8:30 AM. The Parent Seminar will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.

The keynote speaker for the event will be Principal Baruti Kafele, an award winning educator, bestselling author, motivational speaker, and education consultant.

“We heard Principal Kafele speak with our teachers at this year’s WCPS Summer Institute, and we are excited to give our parents the opportunity to hear his passion, experience, and life’s perspectives at our Parent Seminar,” states Dr. Carol Artis, WCPS Executive Director for C&I and Federal Programs. “Principal Kafele is a dynamic speaker, and he will provide valuable strategies that can help students close what he has coined as the ‘attitude gap’, which is defined as, ‘the gap between those students who have the will to achieve excellence and those who do not’.”

In addition to the keynote speaker, the Parent Seminar will host a myriad of presenters, both from the district and from area community agencies and education institutions. Some of the topics to be discussed include:
  • Social Media (WCPS Digital Teaching & Learning Coaches)
  • Poverty (Goldsboro Housing Authority)
  • Math at Home for K-5 students (WCPS Elementary Lead Math Teachers)
  • Testing Information (Manning Musgrave / Hollie Lewis)
