Top state ranked math teachers recognized
This is the image for the news article titled Top state ranked math teachers recognizedThis week, five Wayne County Public Schools (WCPS) teachers were recognized by the Wayne County Board of Education for having been ranked in the top 15 of North Carolina math teachers in their grade level for student growth.

Robin Bryant - Greenwood Middle, Eighth Grade Math Teacher
Andrew Bass - Norwayne Middle, Seventh Grade Math Teacher
Angela Lewis - Rosewood Middle, Seventh Grade Math Teacher
Laura Kester - Rosewood Middle, Eighth Grade Math Teacher

“These five teachers have achieved top state rankings for their commitment to student learning, and their ability to keep students engaged in the classroom,” states Dr. Yvette Smith Mason, Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources & Professional Development. “It is worth noting that two of these teachers were ranked within the top 10 of their grade level for student growth, with Mr. Bass ranked number 2 in North Carolina for seventh grade student growth.”

Rankings were determined by the Education Value Added Assessment System (EVAAS) growth index score for fourth through eighth grade math from the previous year. As part of the state’s Fourth to Eighth Grade Math Teacher Bonus Program for 2017 2018, these five teachers will receive two bonuses based on being in the top 25% of teachers in the district and the state according to the EVAAS student growth index for their subject area.
